But Your Business Followed You Home at Tax Time
Your business and personal taxes are often more connected than they seem. Salary, dividends, investments, and business decisions can all affect your personal tax return. TNA helps you bring everything together before you file.

The Question Usually Starts Small
“Do I Actually Have Everything?” Is Rarely About One Slip
Maybe a document is missing. Maybe one sale, dividend, or family detail changed the year. You do not need to name the tax service before you ask.
- Did the dividend from my company make it into my return?
- I sold some shares. What records do I actually need?
- Can my spouse's income change a credit or benefit?
- Is that RRSP receipt for this tax year?
- Am I too late if one slip has not arrived?
- Can someone explain what this CRA letter means?
Bring the question exactly as it came to you. TNA will follow it through the return and show you which piece needs attention first.
It Was Supposed to Take Twenty Minutes
Then the Folder Started Asking Questions
You sit down after dinner with a folder you thought was finished. Then you remember the shares you sold. Your spouse forwards an RRSP receipt. The company T5 is still in your inbox. Each item looks separate. Together, they change what must be checked before either return is ready.
That Pause Usually Means Something Is Connected
Personal Tax and Financial Planning Services
Because “Almost Everything” Is Not Everything
Personal Tax Returns for You and Your Family
A personal tax return should be accurate, complete, and ready before it's filed. TNA completes a full review of every return — slips, eligible write-offs, deductions, credits, and dates — then meets with you to walk through the findings before anything is filed.
Business Income Still Affects Your Personal Tax Return
Salary, Dividends, and Owner Income
The money may be personal now, but its paper trail began in the company. TNA checks salary, dividends, and the T4 or T5 against the corporate file. Then we explain how that income affects your taxable income, Canada Pension Plan contributions, RRSP room, and wider tax picture.
A Sale Still Carries Its History
Investment Income, Capital Gains, and Property Sales
Selling an investment can feel like one click. Reporting it may need years of context. TNA reviews investment income, purchase history, sale proceeds, costs, and losses for capital gains taxes. We report it without telling you which stocks, bonds, or property to buy or sell.
Not Every Receipt Becomes a Claim
Expenses, Deductions, RRSPs, and Family Details
A receipt does not become a deduction because it reached the folder. TNA checks eligible expenses, RRSP contributions, spouse details, credits, benefits, and any income-splitting rule that may apply. You get an accurate return, not a promise built around the biggest refund.
Tax Time Can Look Further Ahead
Retirement Income and Personal Financial Planning
Retirement can feel far away until tax time brings numbers together. TNA reviews income, your household budget, investment profile, and retirement goal. We estimate how much to invest each year and how RRSPs, RRIFs, CPP, Old Age Security, and withdrawals fit the retirement plan.
Some Letters Follow You All Day
CRA Letters, Adjustments, and Follow-Up
Whether the issue is personal or tied to the company, send TNA the notice and response date before calling CRA. We review what the agency is asking, stand behind our work, and confirm whether TNA will handle the reply, make an adjustment, represent you, or bring in a specialist. If the CRA audits a return we prepared, we stand behind our work and support you through it.
A Complete Folder Can Still Miss Context
TNA Checks What Each Number Connects To
When Details Stay Separate
- A slip is entered without checking anything else
- Salary or dividends are added at tax time
- An investment sale is reported from one number
- Retirement is treated as a future issue
- A CRA letter is left for you to handle
- Extra questions increase the bill later
When TNA Connects Them
- Company income, investments, and family details are reviewed together
- Personal slips are checked against the company’s records
- TNA also checks what you paid, selling costs, and earlier losses
- Today’s income is considered alongside future retirement income
- TNA reviews the request and explains what support is available
- The work and all-in price are agreed before anything begins

You Do Not Have to Connect It First
Start With the Detail You Are Still Unsure About
1. Tell Us What Made You Pause
Bring the tax year, slip, sale, company payment, retirement question, or CRA notice you have.
2. We Trace Where It Leads
The right tax professional checks where that detail reaches the return and what else it needs.
3. Know the Work Before We Begin
TNA explains the next step and a clear all-in price before the agreed work begins.
Not Every Missing Piece Belongs Here
The Detail You Need May Be Sitting in Another File
A T5 needs the dividend record behind it. A deduction may depend on current books. If another service should come first, TNA explains why and brings the answer back to your personal return.
Dividends, Payroll, and T-Slips: Make sure salary, dividends, CPP, payroll records, and T4 or T5 slips tell the same story on the personal return.
Small Business Tax and GST: Check the corporate income, shareholder records, instalments, or company decision behind the owner's tax question.
Bookkeeping and Write-Offs: Bring the business transactions, expenses, assets, and records supporting connected tax work up to date.
Small Business Advisory Services: Look at the wider cash and business effect when a personal financial choice also changes the company.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Questions That Usually Follow “One Quick Thing”
Do Married Couples File One Canadian Tax Return?
No. Married couples still file separate Canadian returns. Each return must show the same marital status and spouse details. The CRA may use both incomes to set some credits and government benefits. TNA can prepare both returns where the service is available and check that the shared details match.
Can Income Changes Reduce My Government Benefits?
Yes. Some government benefits rely on your net income or combined family income. A raise, dividend, RRSP withdrawal, or change in marital status can affect what you qualify for. TNA checks the return and explains when higher income may reduce a benefit or create an amount to repay.
Can RRSP Contributions Lower My Tax Bill?
They may. A registered retirement savings plan contribution can create a deduction if you have room. Its value often depends on the tax rate it offsets. Withdrawals are usually taxable later. TNA can compare using the deduction now with saving it for a year when your income is taxed at a higher rate.
When Should an RRSP Become a RRIF?
By December 31 of the year you turn 71, you must choose what happens to your RRSP. One option is a direct move to a registered retirement income fund. The transfer does not create tax at that point, but later RRIF payments are taxable. TNA can compare the timing, future income, and lifestyle needs before you retire.
Do Market Drops Lower My Tax Bill?
Not by themselves. Market conditions may lower the value of investments held, but a tax result often starts when an investment is sold. A loss in a taxable account may offset taxable capital gains. A drop inside an RRSP or RRIF does not create the same claim. TNA checks the account and sale first.
When Should Personal Tax Planning Actually Begin?
Before the return is due. Speak with a tax advisor when salary, dividends, investments, retirement income, or family circumstances may change. That leaves time to compare options and implement a strategy. At filing time, many choices have already happened. Earlier advice gives you more confidence before a payment or withdrawal.
The Goal Is Not Just to Send It
It Is to Know Why the Return Is Ready
Filing may take one click. The real work is knowing the dividend, sale, RRSP receipt, family change, and CRA question were handled before it. Bring TNA the one part you are still unsure about. We will trace where it belongs and explain what needs to happen next.
